West Suffolk Council News – Grounds maintenance

Hello, we've just received this update from West Suffolk Council

As we are currently experiencing extreme drought conditions, we have either stopped or are phasing out remaining grass cutting operations throughout the district until such time that weather and growing conditions change. The drought has significantly reduced grass growth by causing top growth to turn brown and restricted root depth. Although this looks serious, the grass will green up once rain returns.

During August, we will be undertaking summer pruning and other landscape works. This will involve cutting hedges and shrubs, removing epicormic growth from tree bases, clearing footpaths and spraying weed growth. We will keep this under review and will of course reintroduce the normal service when appropriate.

Please find attached the West Suffolk Council Summer Landscape Works and Grass Cutting Programme for the week Monday 3 to Friday 7 August 2026 taking place across the West Suffolk District which can also be found on our website.

Please feel free to share this update with your community. We also have attached graphics that can be used on social media. The schedule can also be found here: Grass cutting

In all cases, the planned and scheduled work for the next week is dependent on a range of issues including weather conditions, staff, and machinery availability.

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of any spraying of weed growth, please contact me with an image and what3words location.
