We use this data to feed into where our Community Speed watch teams are sited, and also to ask for enforcement support from Suffolk Highways (ANPR Cameras) and Suffolk Constabulary.

Our latest stats are now in, from the Layby at Shop Hill, collected over three weeks in September.  The total vehicle count was 19,562.

Headline figures

  • 14.6% of vehicles were travelling below 30 mph.
  • 42.6% were travelling 30-35 mph.
  • 42.8% were travelling above 35 mph.
  • Therefore, 85.4% of vehicles were travelling at or above 30 mph

Did you know?

If you hit a pedestrian they have a much greater chance of surviving if your speed is lower.

If you hit a pedestrian:

  • at 40 mph there is a 90 percent chance they will be killed.
  • at 35 mph there is a 50 percent chance they will be killed.
  • at 30 mph there is a 20 percent chance they will be killed.
  • at 20 mph there is a 2.5 percent chance they will be killed.

Thanks go out to our councillors, who set up the VAS, then move it to different locations across the parish each month, and download the data for sharing with our Community Speedwatch team.
