West Suffolk Council News – Forest City

We've just received this update from Cllr Cliff Waterman, the Leader of West Suffolk Council about its approach to Forest City proposals...

Dear Chair,

I am writing to update you on the proposed Forest City 1 development.

The Government’s New Towns Taskforce has rejected the proposal, and West Suffolk Council, alongside neighbouring authorities, has written to Government urging ministers to ensure it does not progress any further.

While we recognise the need for new homes, West Suffolk Council remains firmly opposed to Forest City 1. The proposal is not plan-led, is not supported by sufficient evidence, has no formal status within the planning system, and would have significant impacts on local communities, infrastructure, agricultural land, and the horse racing industry.

We have asked Government to provide certainty to residents by confirming that this proposal will not be taken forward.

I would be grateful if you could share this update with your parish councillors and residents as appropriate.

Yours sincerely, Cliff

Cllr Cliff Waterman

Leader, West Suffolk Council
