West Suffolk Council, as the waste collection authority, is responsible for organising the collection of sharps from residents who self-administer.
It runs and funds a pharmacy network as a place people can safely dispose of their sharps. I am pleased to confirm that we have reached an agreement with Market Cross Pharmacy, after its change of ownership from Lloyds Pharmacy, for sharps collections to recommence.
This means we now have four locations within West Suffolk where residents can dispose of sharps bins safely:
- Bury St Edmunds – Croasdales Pharmacy
- Haverhill – Stourview Wellbeing Centre
- Mildenhall – Market Place Pharmacy
- Newmarket – Lords Pharmacy

We are actively exploring potential options for additional locations and are in discussions with neighbouring councils. This work is also being undertaken following recent changes introduced by the Norfolk and Suffolk Integrated Care Board, which required a review of the available disposal routes for sharps.
